We are staffed by Doctors of Audiology

Not everyone realizes this, but there are two different types of hearing care providers; Hearing Aid Dispensers (also known as Hearing Aid Specialists or Hearing Instrument Specialists) and Audiologists.

Hearing Aid Dispensers, also known as Hearing Instrument Specialists, are not required to have a degree in hearing sciences. In fact, many states only require a high school diploma, some training and the ability to pass a test about hearing aids. The requirements to become a dispenser in North Carolina are:

• A high school diploma or GED equivalent
• A background check
• 1 year apprenticeship/training
• Pass a state exam and pay a fee

Audiologists, on the other hand, have received an education on hearing loss through their respective universities. Some Audiologists have Masters degrees, while others have a professional doctorate in the discipline of audiology. Both of our Audiologists have an Au.D., or Doctor of Audiology degree.

Do you need a waterproof hearing aid? We can offer the Phonak Audeo Life waterproof model. Looking for activity tracking? We can fit the Starkey Livio AI hearing aids. Want the smallest rechargeable behind the ear model? We could provide the Widex Moment. No matter the need, we have a device available for you.

We offer more than just hearing aids

At our clinic, we believe that hearing care should be focused on your individual communication needs and preferences.

While many people visit an Audiologist for hearing aids, there is much more we offer to our patients when needed. For example, many patients with hearing loss also have ringing in their ears, also known as tinnitus. We have helped many patients manage their tinnitus and we are a member of the Tinnitus Retraining Therapy Association (TRTA). We also offer Better Communication Classes, Auditory Processing Evaluations, Custom Hearing Protection and more.
